As expected, the RP Men's Team delivered the goods in Round 1 of the 2010 Chess Olympiad (Open) by fashioning out a 4-0 shutout against Korea.
It was a good start of course. But the early demolition, as we all know, is far from the "real" battles that lie ahead in the future rounds. As the classic song goes "Don't count your money while sitting at the table; there's time enough for counting when the dealing is done."
The comforting thing is that the RP Men's Team started right from the start.
Seeded No.37, the RP Team (RtgAvg: 2552) simply stood like a Goliath in front of the seeded No.112 seed Korea (RtgAvg: 2069) whose rating of its strongest player in the team, nontitled Chogdov Munkhbat (2236), is miles away from the rating average of the RP Team. The Elo rating 2236 is as strong as the No.59 ranked Elias Lao in the Philippines.

In Round 2, our team will face No.16 seed Span (RtgAvg: 2658) which is bannered by world-class players GM Alexei Shirov (2749) and GM Pons Francisco Vallejo (2697). After a warm-up in Round 1, our men are in for a bloody war in Round 2.
All I can say is, our team should never forget Philippine history. Sharpen the bolos and slaughter them over the board.
