Elusive win

After the completion of eight rounds in the 1st Campomanes Memorial Cup (Women), a victory over a foreign counterpart seemed to be so elusive for the Filipina campaigners.

Going into the last round, not one Filipina campaigner has posted yet even a single win if paired against the visiting players.

After Round 8, all our Filipina campaigners could afford were four draws courtesy of WFM Catherine Pereña (draw with WGM POURKASHIYAN Atousa of Iran in Round 3 and another draw with WIM HOANG Thi Nhu Y of Vietnam in Round 8); a draw by Jedara Docena with WGM ZHANG Jilin of China in Round 7); and a draw by WFM Shercila Cua also with WGM ZHANG Jilin in Round 8.

The Filipina contingent has the last chance of posting a win against foreign opponents in this tournament in the final round today. Pinay best bet Pereña is paired against No.1 seed Zhao Zue while Rulp Ylem Jose will battle WGM Zhang Jilin.

Let's hope that at least one Pinay could taste a victory over a visitor in this tourney.
