I best remember this young boy as the kiddie player who beat GM Darwin Laylo during a rapid tournament (was it the 1st PSC Expo event?) just a few months ago.
I was there at the venue, and I saw how GM Laylo shook the hands of this kid as a sign of surrender. Because of his cute size, this kid even had to stand up during the game just to have a good view of the board. He's really fun to watch.
I wasn't surprised at all when he topped the Rotary District 3830 - 1st Rapid Chess Tournament (16 Years Old and Below) held over the weekend at Mall of Asia in Pasay City. Notably, he's unbeaten in this tournament, totally dominating the event with 7/7 performance.
What surprised me was that he's already playing in the U-16 category. I thought he still belongs to the U-14 age-group.
Jerad's triumph might fire up his Ate Jedara who is now fighting for the Philippine Flag in the women's category of the 2010 Chess Olympiad.
