Pinays surprise Argentina

The Philippine Women Team has continued to show solid stance in Russia. After five rounds of tough battle, our Pinays have performed superbly well beyond expectations.

After holding powerhouse Team Israel to a draw in Round 4, our women's team put up another world-class display of determination in Round 5, battling toe-to-toe against strong Team Argentina which was manned by an IM, WGM, and a WIM.

Notably, our country's female ace WFM Chardine Cheradee Camacho defeated the Argentinian IM Carolina Lujan in Board 1 (what a performance!), WFM Shercila Cua clinically drew with WGM Claudia Amura, and untitled Rulp Ylem Jose put a scare on WIM Marisa Zuriel before settling for a stubborn draw. Ylem's games are full of heart and determination - stubbornness if you would want to call it. I admire the attitude of this young lady. Jedara Docena put up a dominating performance at the early part of the game, but later got into trouble. The 2:2 output against Argentina was a strong statement that our women's team really set their feet in Russia to compete.

We can see two dominant loveable characteristics of our women's team. One, they are performing beyond expectations. There are times when the ideal measuring stick of the team's performance is the expectation, not the victory itself. Two, our women engage in battles like true gladiators, full of fire and hunger, with rage and courage that will shame any man.

Frankly, these two characteristics are yet to be seen in our Men's Team.

Yes, another cornerstone for Phil women's team found in Jose. Jedara is another potential one.

Hope Cheradee gets at least WIM or IM norm from this Olympiad!

Another Pinay fighter in that mold is Jan Jodilyn Fronda!
