It is with great pride to share this bit of good news. CSB-La Salle Green Hills (LSGH) capped the 86th season with a stellar cliffhanger performance enroute to the NCAA Junior's Chess Championship.
The team played minus top player Jan Nigel Galan who is in ICU for Dengue. The closely watched playoffs ended with a smashing victory for the Green Hills boys who delivered a telling blow to the Letran Knights ending their firm griphold to the annual title.
Team captain Trio Ramos delivered the ice breaker with a smashing win in Board 2 after 35 moves in a gruelling 3 hour match over Letran's Mikee Suede. Within minutes Board 4 player AJ Mendonez of LSGH executed a calibrated draw after almost losing the game by reversing it to a crisp draw with Christian Ray Drapete.
The team needed only one more draw to take home the championship. The situation rattled the remaining Letran Knights into forcing 2 wins to sweep the championship. Migs Lahoz almost delivered a sweep for the LSGH team but lost on the Board 3 fight to Christian Dave Cabida down to the last minute.
Board 1 player Gio Mejia manuevered to a piece advantage overpowering Letran's pride woman National Master Cherry Ann Mejia. Cherry Ann is the older sister of Gio playing in the opposing team. Pressured to win, the Letran offensive collapsed in the dying last 3 minutes. Gio beat his “ate”.
The games were closely watched by NCFP Vice President Bro. Rolly Dizon. Present also in the tournament were Mr. Vic Lahoz LSGH Chess Program Manager, Henry Atayde and LSGH Team Manager Alex Ramos.

Earlier the CSB Senior Team won also the Senior's team Championship via unanimous decision also over the Senior's Team of the Letran Knights.
This is the first time for chess for a double championship for CSB and LSGH.
