Barangay Wesley visits Don Galo Chess Club

When great minds collaborate with each other, expect something great. That's what Atty. Roi Hirang of the Don Galo Chess Club and Atty. Nanobrain of Barangay Wesley essayed last Saturday (Sept. 4) in ParaƱaque.

The two lawyers, the brains and muscles behind the staging of the 1st Barangay Wesley-Don Galo Chess Club friendly team match, defined charisma and leadership beautifully woven into a tapestry of passion and goodwill.

It was a indeed a friendly - but competitively - club match. Initially an 8-board event (but which was later expanded to 10-board), the match-up proved to be a close one. It was a seesaw battle, a suspense thriller until the last round.

The Don Galo as a host made us (the BW visitors) savor again the warm and gentle touch of a genuine Filipino hospitality.

More than the great venue, sumptuous pandesal and pansit, bottomless distilled water and coffee, it's their smiles and brotherly welcome that greeted and made us feel-like-home.

And of course, the battles, the killings over the board, the adrenaline that brought all of us together.

In behalf of the BW, I would like to thank the Don Galo Chess Club, ably led by Atty. Hirang, for the brotherly and warm welcome you accorded us. We're hoping it's just the first of the many to come.

Atty. Nanobrain (who happened to be not in photo because he's busy for his third plate, hehe) treated the So family (William, Wesley, and Wilma) and the participating BW players to a sumptuous lunch at the Cabalen in MOA before proceeding to Don Galo.

Kapmigz (left) and Wordfunph could not keep their adrenaline in control, so they already massacred each other right in front of Cabalen. Don't ask me who won this match. All I know is that Wordfun redefined the role of Knight in the game of chess.

At the venue, the attractive streamer of the Don Galo Chess Club greeted us.

This is the man! Atty. Roi Hirang welcoming BW members.

The lady Barangay Chairperson welcomed the BW members.

NM Mirabeau Maga administered the event. Believe me, BW members were very afraid when we thought he would play for the Don Galo team.

The ceremonial moves by the two great minds behind this event - Atty. Hirang and Atty. Nanobrain.

And so the games began. Yours truly (in red) had to sweat all out to win over this talented and promising kid Allen. He's only 11 years old.

The host club distributed tokens in the form of mugs (I'm sad 'coz I lost mine) and certificates. NM Paulo Bersamina (aka Spartan1998) provided the firepower for BW by scoring 5/5!

The scoresheet that tells it all - Barangay Wesley needed to score convincingly in the last round to win over Don Galo Chess Club.
