The two lawyers, the brains and muscles behind the staging of the 1st Barangay Wesley-Don Galo Chess Club friendly team match, defined charisma and leadership beautifully woven into a tapestry of passion and goodwill.
It was a indeed a friendly - but competitively - club match. Initially an 8-board event (but which was later expanded to 10-board), the match-up proved to be a close one. It was a seesaw battle, a suspense thriller until the last round.
The Don Galo as a host made us (the BW visitors) savor again the warm and gentle touch of a genuine Filipino hospitality.
More than the great venue, sumptuous pandesal and pansit, bottomless distilled water and coffee, it's their smiles and brotherly welcome that greeted and made us feel-like-home.
And of course, the battles, the killings over the board, the adrenaline that brought all of us together.
In behalf of the BW, I would like to thank the Don Galo Chess Club, ably led by Atty. Hirang, for the brotherly and warm welcome you accorded us. We're hoping it's just the first of the many to come.
The host club distributed tokens in the form of mugs (I'm sad 'coz I lost mine) and certificates. NM Paulo Bersamina (aka Spartan1998) provided the firepower for BW by scoring 5/5!
The scoresheet that tells it all - Barangay Wesley needed to score convincingly in the last round to win over Don Galo Chess Club.
