PENAFRANCIA FESTIVAL BICOL OPEN

THE Naga City government in cooperation with the Naga City Chess Club, LCC Mall, and other private sponsors will conduct The Peñafrancia Festival Bicol Open Chess Champonship to be held at LCC Mall Naga City on September 28-29, 2010. The chess tourney is the final part of the Naga City's Sports Activities in line with the Tercentenary Celebration of our Lady of Peñafrancia.

It aims to develop local talents from the grassroots level; to boost local and sports tourism; to advocate peace and development in the region; and to showcase Naga City’s Culture and tradition to the rest of our countrymen.

Women International Master Cristine Rose Mariano, whose roots is from Naga City will have a simultaneous chess match with 10-15 kiddies and young chess players as an added feature for the tourney.

There will be a Three Hundred Pesos (P300.00) registration for the 2-day seven round Swiss System. The champion will receive P7,000 and a trophy from DILG Sec. Jessie Robredo, First Runner Up will P5,000 and a trophy from Naga City Mayor John Bongat, Second Runner Up will receive P3,000 and a trophy from Naga City Councilor Nelson Legacion, 4th - 10th place will receive consolation prizes.

Top Kiddie, Lady, Senior and Junior will also receive special prizes. Alex Dinoy will be the Chief Arbiter of the tourney. Please contact Mario P. Franco, Naga City Chess Club President, CP# 0916-5224562 for more details.
