I can't help expressing my frustration with how the organizers of the ongoing 3rd Battle of Grandmasters (BOGM) are handling the media aspect of this much awaited chess event.
A special chess tournament of this importance needs more than the news of who beat whom. As of today, all we get are reports from the newspapers which only tell us of who won and who lost. The chess community is groping in the dark, even relying merely on text messages just to get fresh updates about the games.
The only way to promote chess is to make it visual. The games must be SEEN by the audience. The audience must be 'involved' in the games.
Visiting the official website of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) will simply ruin your day. You could not even find an update about the 3rd BOGM on its page!
I think the best effort the NCFP could provide is to upload the PGNs of the games on its website. There are only twelve matches (six in the Men's and six in the Women's), the notations and uploading of which are not so costly and requiring not much technical difficulties.
By the way, here are the results in Round 1 (based on text message):
Men's Group
GM Wesley So vs IM Inno Sadorra (Wesley won)
GM John Paul Gomez vs IM Oliver Dimakiling (Gomez won)
GM Darwin Laylo vs IM Ronald Dableo (draw)
GM Joey Antonio vs IM Richard Bitoon (draw)
GM Jayson Gonzales vs IM Nolte (draw)
FM Haridas Pascua vs FM Jan Emmanuel Garcia (draw)
Women's Group (From the Philippine Daily Inquirer. Only 3 matches were reported. I don't know if there are only six participants in the Women's group.)
Ralf Ylem Jose vs Jenny Palomo (Jose won)
WFM Cherry Ann Mejia vs WNM Aices Salvador (Mejia won)
Mikee Suede vs Akiko Suede (Mikee won)
