DAVAO City will be the host of two major championships in the local chess calendar -- the National Age-Group Chess Championships on May 15-19 and the National Junior Chess Championship on May 20-24.
An annual undertaking of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), headed by chairman/president Prospero “Butch” Pichay, the twin tournaments are expected to draw the country’s top kiddies and top junior players form all over the country.
The National Juniors will be played at the Gaisano Grand Citimall in Davao City.
These events are also presented by City Government of Davao, Tropang Growee, Jewm Eggs, JCI Durian City, Inc. and Mendez Medical Group.
In the National Juniors, the champion in the boys division will pocket the lion’s share of P12,000 and P8,000 in the girls category.
In the boys division, the runner-up will get P8,000, the third placer P5,000, the fourth placer P4,000, the fifth placer P3,000, the sxith placer P2,000, the seventh placer P1,500 and the eighth up to the 10 th placers P1,000.
In the girls division. The runner-up will earn P6,000, the third placer P5,000, the fourth placer P3,500, the fifth placer P2,000, the sixth placer P1,5000 and the seventh to 10 th placers P1,000.
