Search for the next Wesley So

Mr. Ed Pascual (a.k.a. Ragdeam, left) who actively leads the Filipino American Chess Movement (FACM), meets with Makati Chess Club President Atty. Vic Aceveda (center) and MCC officer Kardopov to discuss their project billed as the "Search for the Next Wesley So."

Let's listen to Ragdeam himself (from his forum over chessgames.com):

"Yeah tuloy ang meeting with the officers of the makati chess club, led by Atty Aceveda. I am inviting as well the registered active chess arbiters and tournament directors of ncfp, including the uaap chess tournament officials. they are supportive of the plans to hold tournaments in the phils with the support of the filams in the form of providing prizes, admin costs. This is all with the objective of finding the next Wesley So of Phil chess, as well as aligning tournament activities between philippines and filams in the usa.

"For starters, this is what the Filipino American Chess Movement had done. (kardopov, as i said in our meeting at "murphy's", we hope (all of us in BW) play in the First Filipino American Chess Tournament to be held at Marshall Chess Club.) Mr. Pichay is invited and he had confirmed that he will attend. GM Torre had confirmed his attendance as well. We will yet to invite other GMs as well. Watch for further announcements.

"Since we launched the search for next Wesley So, to be sponsored by Filams patrons and NGOs, there are now hundreds of applicants across the nation. We are now presently screening them. I am so inspired as do the members of the Filipino American Chess Movement to learn that there are many, many youthful chess players that deserve support to become the next Wesley So. I hope and pray that this becomes a reality.

"I am directing those applicants in the "Search for next , a project of the Filipino American Chess Movement. They are now communicating via my Facebook: Ed Pascual and Filipino American Chess Movement FB accounts.

"In the filam sponsorship program, filams are to donate computers to the Philippine chess clubs. initially, the makati chess club would be the pivot club to determine who will receive those computers. The clubs may be a formal club housed in an office of the club, or in an i-cafe in the philippines.

"It is not bad to dream. My dream is to play in the First Filipino American Chess Congress (see the attached) together with the entire BW? WE had done the first steps, the next ones are easy, believe it."

"The Filipino American Chess Movement invites you to post your insights, ideas, inputs and various comments on topics that involve the development of Filipino American and Philippine Chess (including chess where our OFWs are based in around 38 countries in the world)on filipinoamericanchess@yahoogroups.com.

"You are free to register there, become a member of the filipinoamericanchess@yahoogroups.com. Once registered as a YG member, you may apply to become a regular member of the FACM. If not satisfied, just quit readily by pushing few buttons.

"As a member, you can join the tournaments (including choiced norm tournaments), apply for sponsorship grants from the FACM fund, sell your products/supplies/merchandise and even recruit for advertisers into your blog sites and services. You can monitor your donations and contributions as a donor and sponsor. Try it now! Be involved, this is one of a kind organization in the world."
