DE LA PENA TOPS PHILWEB; MAYOR ANNEXED 7TH NATIONAL EXECUTIVE CHESS CROWN

MANILA, PHILIPPINES---CANDIDATE MASTER Ric dela Pena lost to former Far Eastern University (FEU) mainstay Ritchie Evangelista in the ninth and final round but still the champion in the Grand Finals of Philweb Human Plus National Executive Grand Prix Active Chess Championships was held recently at the FEMI building in A. Soriano Jr. Street in Intramuros, Manila.

Dela Pena, who already virtual champion going to the last round after leading 1.5 points his closest rivals, tallied 6.5 points in nine outings.

Evangelista, on the other hand settled for a tied for 2nd to 4th placers along with veteran campaigner Emil Chua and Fide Master Randy Segarra after tallying 6 points apiece.

Dr. Jenny Mayor, meantime annexed his seven National Executive title after accumulating a total158 points in this year-long event, hosted by Philweb Corporation led by lawyer Cliburn Orbe.

The Romblon native Mayor, a Quiapo lay minister also topped the national executive tournament organized by the Active Chess Center of Asia (ACCA) from 1999 to 2002 and the on-line care in Paranaque City in 2006.
