Samantha Glo Revita

Behind this innocent, youthful, angelic face is a mind that has already brought honors not only to her family and province but also to her country.

Ten year-old Samantha Glo Revita, the chess jewel of Rosales, Pangasinan, was among the four Filipino gold medalists who waved the Philippine flag in the 10th ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championship in Vietnam. (The other gold medalists are Cherry Anne Mejia, Paulo Bersamina and Jacob Literatus.)

Born to an engineer father and an educator mother, and with an uncle (Ricardo Revita) who is the incumbent Mayor of their town, young Samantha is poised to reach further heights in her chess career.

Did you know that whenever this little girl returns home with a medal, she’s treated to a heroine welcome with a town parade and a recognition program?

How sweet. Talk about family support and encouragement.

There’s no doubt about the chess abilities of this promising chess gem. Let’s look at her recent achievements:

1. Gold Medal
Girls 10
10th ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championship

2. Champion
2009 National Age Group Chess Championship Kalibo, Aklan

3. 1 Gold Medal
2 Silver Medals
1 Bronze Medal
9th ASEAN Age Group Chess Championship Da Nang, Vietnam June 9-18, 2008

It’s good to know that she’s really good not only in chess but also in school. Oh wow, she’s a consistent First Honor in all the years since he attended Grade School.

Chess and academic excellence can go together, indeed. Or may I say, chess really helps kids in their academic performance?

After her successful stint in the ASEAN Age-Group in Vietnam this June, we will see more of her intelligence in the coming World Youth Chess Championship in November in Antalya, Turkey.

We wish Samantha best wishes in her chess career. Thank you, Samantha. Continue making the Philippines proud!!

Talent and chess goes together.
If we have ordinary talent, we just play ordinary chess.
