RP gets 1st gold

With a round to spare, 14-year old Cherry Ann Mejia has already won the first gold for the RP Team in the 10th ASEAN Age-Group Chess Championships by piling up 7.0 points in eight rounds after settling for a draw against WCM Nguyen Ngoc Thuy Trang of Vietnam in Round 8.

Her closest follower in Girls 14 category is Vietnam’s Do Hoang Minh Tho who is in solo second spot with 5.5 points after the penultimate round.
