Lennon Hart Salgados

Fifteen year-old Lennon Hart Salgados (1900) – the chess pride of Misamis Oriental – brought another honor to his province by ruling the Juniors Division of the 17th Shell Chess Active-NCR Leg after posting an impressive performance of 6.5 points out of possible 7.0.

A 4th-year student of Corpus Christi High School in Cagayan de Oro City, Salgados won the tournament through higher tie-break points over another talented Jan Emmanuel Garcia of Ateneo who also piled up 6.5 points.

Garcia’s middle-game draw against Richelieu Salcedo of FEU in the penultimate round cost him the championship as his Round 7 win over Narquinden Reyes was not enough to put him back on top of the final rankings.

Salgados has been showing consistent very good performance lately. He scored 5.5 points to finish second in the Boys 16 Under Category in the 2009 National Age Group Chess Championship in Aklan just recently.

Also, he weaved a very solid 4 wins and 5 draws to win silver medal for the Philippines in the 10th ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championships in Vietnam.

We hope to see more of his achievements in the future. Good luck!!

(By the way, our reader named Felix Anthony Lafuente of Don Carlos, Bukidnon sent me a text message saying he's an avid fan of Lennon Hart Salgados. Thanks, Anthony, for visiting this blog.)
