Paulo Bersamina produces 2nd gold for RP

Eleven-year old Paulo Bersamina reaped the second gold medal for the Philippine Team in the 10th ASEAN Age-Group Chess Championships that is about to conclude in Hue City, Vietnam.

Bersamina actually tied with compatriot Austin Jacob Literatus and Vietnamese player CM Le Huu Thai for first to third spot with 5.5 points but won the gold with the highest tie break points in the Open 12 Rapid Chess category.

Bersamina’s heroic feat was punctuated by a victory over Open 12 Standard Champion FM Tran Tuan Minh (2043) of Vietnam in Round 6.

This young chess pride from Pasay City had to beat one Russian, one Malaysian, and three Viets to bring honor to the country. Two of the three Viets whom he defeated were FIDE title holders.

Equally talented Literatus took home the bronze.

The country’s first gold medal was won by Cherry Ann Mejia in the Girls 14 Standard Chess Category.

Congratulations, Pau!!! You made the Philippines proud!!!
