Palawan Open 2009

The 8th Gov. Joel T. Reyes Palawan National Open Chess Tournament 2009 (Palawan Open) kicks off today at the Palawan Provincial Capitol in Puerto Princesa City.

This nine-round tournament runs up to June 15 and boasts of a P100,000 cash prize for the champion.

GMs John Paul Gomez, Mark Paragua, and Darwin Laylo were earlier reported to be in the line-up, together with IMs Richard Bitoon, Barlo Nadera, and NM Emmanuel Senador.

It is not clear, though, if GM Bong Villamayor would be around to defend his crown which he won in the 2008 edition of this cash-rich event.

Good luck to all the participants. May the best man win.

No game-fixing, please.
