Sadly, the 8th Gov. Joel T. Reyes Palawan National Open Chess Tournament 2009 (Palawan Open) ended like a whisper in the wind.
Wasn’t it a major NCFP tournament? A Filipino GM participated in that event, together with the country’s leading IMs and NMs.
Yet, did you hear anything about the event?
Is it too costly for the NCFP to at least publish in its official website the round-after-round reporting of who beat whom?
The local chess community is hungry for chess news, especially during tournaments. Sadly, the NCFP just can’t satisfy that hunger.
If the NCFP can’t deliver the very basic service of providing reports on its tournaments and activities, how can we expect it to propel Philippine chess in general?
As usual, we had to depend on the newspaper – particularly the Philippine Daily Inquirer – for the reports. Thanks to Inquirer sports journalist Roy Luarca for that.
Anyway, here are the results of the Palawan Open 2009.
