IM Sadorra gets scholarhip in US

Lately, we haven't seen IM Julio Catalino Sadorra play in recent big chess events, which led most of us - including me - to asking what happened to him.

There's an update at last. A kibitz by Mrs. Leny So, mother of GM Wesley, over Barangay Wesley (Wesley's page at chessgames.com) shed light about this another future GM of the Philippines. Please read on:

Dear Chess Friends,

My family would like to share the blessing and excitement about Ino’s recent award, an academic honors scholarship at the University of Texas Dallas, where he is now pursuing a degree program in psychology.

He also plays for the UTD chess team, and remains attached to the NCFP as he is a Filipino student scholar at UTD.
He has begun to participate in the university tournament circuit in the US.

The NCFP officials whom we emailed to inform about his temporary absence in the Philippine chess circuit were delighted about Ino’s scholarship; Ino remains a member of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines. Ino plans to participate in the May Subic chess open during his academic break.

The UTD’s chess program is excellent as they conduct annual invitational closed tournaments for their aspiring players to obtain their titles in addition to the regular rated colleges team chess tournaments.
We would like to thank you for your various support to chess players like Ino.

We would appreciate your prayers for Ino’s success in both his academics and chess tournaments at UTD.

You can view his photos at the UTD chess and Monroi websites, http://monroi.com/chess-blog/dr-ale... and http://chess.utdallas.edu/bio.html
God bless you and your family!

Best regards,

Chalito (Bing) Sadorra and Family
