8th Laguna Inter-town

Sta. Cruz, Laguna

This is the 8th edition, venue last year was at the Pavilion Mall. This year, it was at San Luis Sports Complex in Sta Cruz Laguna on Sept 12 & 13.

Eight teams entered in kiddies (12 yrs below) with 1 hour per player time control. Organizersdecided on 7 round robin format with the 8 teams entered - 3 teams from Cabuyao (1 all- girls), 2 from Calamba (1 all-girls), and 1 each from Siniloan and San Pablo aside fromSta Rosa.

Scoring is match point (2 pts for win, 1 pt for draw and 0 for loss). It was obvious as the rounds progressed that Calamba A and Sta Rosa teams were ahead of the pack.

Calamba A had a 'powerhouse' team - Manansala (Shell Naga top qualifier) had Board 1, Michelle Yaon (Palarong Pambansa/STACAA) had board 2 and Mediocarin brother manned Boards 3 and 4 (both STACAA players also). Sta Rosa team was composed of TonyYu's students.

Calamba A had a perfect 7 win, no loss record for 14 matchpoints while Sta Rosa had 6 wins, 1 loss bowing only to Calamba A which only had 1 draw among its games, the rest being wins. Naturally, Calamba A SWEPT all the 5 board medals.

For the Juniors (19 yrs below) there were about 17 teams from various schools, towns, companies in Laguna. Calamba - men's team won while Univ of Perpetual Help - Binan got 2nd place. Calamba again had a solid team bannered by Nanola (Shell Batangas top qualifier) and board medalists for Boards 2,3 and 4.

For the Seniors, there were over 20 teams gunning for the top prize of PhP 25K pesos! Sta Cruz A won 1st place bannered by Penero (usually Laguna's Board 1 player).
