More photos of the 1st Coun. Noel "Onie" Bayona Chess Cup

Chess is a great equalizer, at least in age. Chess is so wonderful it serves as a crossroad between and among the young and "the-not-so-young." In this particular game, youth prevailed. Watching intently is Atty. Serafin Manila, a generous benefactor of the Malibay Chess Club.

Official game going on. The tournament committee could not break this crowd which got enchanted by the wizardry being cast on the board. Understandably, they could not help watching the breathtaking game being played by the 11-year old Paulo Bersamina, the darling of the crowd.

Bird's eye view. A participant got a reinforcement here -- a small chair on top of a monoblock chair to have a better view of the board. I wonder if FIDE has something to say about this tactic.

Due to shortage of chess tables, this pair contented themselves playing on the pavement. This was an official game, you know.

Yours truly working on the mike and laptop. The little kid beside me is my son, Lemon Kris.
