Acedo wins chess title

JOSE Maria College (JMC) woodpusher Rowelyn Joy Acedo beat two other four pointers due to superior tiebreak points to emerge champion in the 1st Filway-Diwa Under-16 Club Rating Chess Tournament held at the Blue Knight Chess Club (BKCC) on Saturday.

Acedo edged University of Mindanao players John Denzel Amar and Alvin Acas who placed second and third, respectively. Ademar Toleran of Sped Bangkal occupied the fourth spot with 3.5 points.

The JMC standout, who hails from Buhangin, received a trophy courtesy of Filway Marketing's Hector Tagaysay and a medal from FA Ricky Navalta of Diwa Learning System. The next three placers also got medals.

Finishing behind were Daniel Rome Borinaga of Doña Pilar Learning Foundation, John Gerard Acedo of JMC, James Patrick Apolonio of University of the Immaculate Conception, Szusza Grace Tabudlong of Sta. Ana Central Elementary School, Allen Davin de Asis of Magallanes Elementary School, Jessie Ambrocio of Don Dizon Elementary School (DDES), John Cloyd Oria and Marie Yentel Juarez of Sped-Bangkal, Al-Yasser Salik and Jhunna Laica Teh of DDES, John Louel Juarez of Mintal Comprehensive Elementary School, and Kimberly Mae Albiso and Dawn Zulueta of DDES.

The tournament is organized by BKCC director Ronnie Tabudlong in coordination with the Davao City Sports Council, Inc. headed by Davao City Councilor Peter Laviña.(MLSA)
