XAVIER INTERSCHOLASTIC CHESS TOURNEY LURES BIG FIELD

MANILA, PHILIPPINES---THE La Salle Greenhills (LSGH) woodpushers joins in yet again a history in the making in the field of chess mind-boggling sports when it clashes with the best in the 6th Xavier Interscholastic Chess Invitational at the High School Multipurpose Hall, Xavier School, Greenhills West, San Juan, Metro, Manila.

Top young pawnpushers are expected to vie for honors, organized by the Athletics and Physical Education – Xavier, the two Saturday event (January 23 and 30) is divided into two groups, the Grade School and High School divisions.

“This event is important because it gives our young athletes the chance to demonstrate the techniques and styles they have learned so far in the game of kings. It will also help to experience the camaraderie of sport,” said tournament director John Sy.

Shell National Youth active chess chief coordinator Alex Dinoy will supervise the said chess fest.

Top schools all over the Metropolis and neighbor cities will see in two divisions categorized into juniors and grade schools. The tournament shall be open to all bona fide students of the invited schools. Tournament officials reserve the right to seek clarification of the eligibility of any participating player so proof of enrollment (valid student ID card) should be available.

Program manager Vic Lahoz and Alex Ramos of Team LSGH fielded in four teams, two team each in the juniors and grade schools category. Each school may field any number of teams of four players each in both divisions.

Among the schools participating are host Xavier School, Ateneo Grade School, La Immaculada Concepcion School, International School Manila, Brent International School, St Paul Quezon City, Lourdes School Mandaluyong, Diliman Preparatory School, Manila Science High School, Pinaglabanan Elementary School, Roces High School, Ramon Magsaysay Cubao High School, Holy Family University in Angeles, and Christian Ecclesiastical School in Bulacan.
