TOURNAMENT RULES AND GUIDELINES

The Kidapawan Open
The Kidapawan Open is a seven-round Swiss System Open Tournament, which will be held from 5 – 7 February 2010 at the Kidapawan City Convention Center.

Time Control and Format
Swiss System, Seven Rounds, Active Chess, Thirty (30) Minutes Per Player Per Game

Participants
The tournament is open to all Filipino players of all ages, rated or non-rated, male or female, residing anywhere in the Philippines.

However, the tournament will register a total of one hundred players (100) only which will be considered on a first come first served basis.

A registration fee of Three Hundred Pesos (P300.00) shall be required from each player. However, players residing in Kidapawan City shall pay Two Hundred Pesos (P200.00) only, while Junior and Kiddie Players shall pay One Hundred Pesos (P100.00) only.

A bond of One Hundred Pesos (P100.00) shall be required from all players, which will be returned to him/her after the tournament. However, the same will be forfeited in favor of the organizer if the player defaults in one of his/her games.

The organizer has the right to reject any registration without assigning any reason.

Deadline for registration is on 5 February 2009, 10:00 a.m. All entries must be submitted by mail or personally to the Kidapawan Chess Club, Inc., c/o Natalia T. Olay, 59 Quirino Drive, Kidapawan City.

11:00 am - 12:00 nn - Third Round
12:00 nn – 2:00 pm - Lunch Break
2:00 - 3:00 pm - Fourth Round
4:00 - 5:00 pm - Fifth Round

3rd Day, 7 February 2008 (Sunday)
8:30 - 9:30 am - Sixth Round
10:00 – 11:00 am - Seventh Round
11:00 am - 12:00 nn - Awarding/Closing Ceremonies

Champion - P 15,000.00 + Medal
First Runner Up - P 10,000.00 + Medal
Second Runner Up - P 5,000.00 + Medal
Third Runner Up - P 3,000.00 + Medal
Fourth Runner Up to
Ninth Runner Up - P 1,000.00 each
Best Kiddie Player - P 1,000.00 + Medal
Best Junior Player - P 1,000.00 + Medal
Best Female Player - P 1,000.00 + Medal

Playing Venue
The tournament will be played at the Kidapawan City Convention Center.

Playing Conditions
1. Except as otherwise provided, the FIDE Rules of Chess shall govern the tournament.
2. Defaulting time is ten (10) minutes after the start of each round.
3. Chess recording is optional.
4. All ties shall be broken as follows:
a. The results of the game between the tied players;
b. Bucholz System; and
c. Median Bucholz.
5. Protests must be submitted in writing to the Chief Arbiter within thirty (30) minutes after the conclusion of the round. A protest fee of P500.00 shall be required. The Chief Arbiter shall decide immediately and his decision is final and unappealable.

Tournament Arbiter
The Chief Arbiter for the tournament is National Master Prospero Cruz. He will be assisted by Mr. Alfred Moulic, Ms. Natalia T. Olay, and Mr. Pedrito Abuan.

Tournament Organizer
The Kidapawan Open is organized by the Kidapawan Chess Club, Inc., in cooperation with the City Government of Kidapawan and Batch 85 – Notre Dame of Kidapawan Boys and Girls HS Alumni Association Inc.
