SCUAA 2010

Even with the chess wars in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) still being fought, here come additional hostilities as chess competitions in the 22nd season of the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCURF)-National Capital Region start today (Wednesday) at the Rizal Technology University (RTU).

RTU is the perennial champ of SCUAA chess, especially during the reign of Merben Roque in the RTU Team. Imagine 15 (or more?) consecutive chess men's title!! I'm not sure if this team is still composed of Edsel Montoya, Paulo James Florendo, Richelieu Salcedo and Randolf Dalauta.

Other member-schools of SCUAA-NCR are Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Eulogio "Amang" Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology, Technological University of the Philippines, Philippine Normal University, Marikina Polytechnic College and Philippine State College of Aeronautics.

I hope that the organizers of SCUAA 2010 provide us updates about their chess events.
