Cardoso vs Fischer
There was a comment that the late GM Bobby Fischer was just a "child" when he and the now 72-year old IM Rodolfo Cardoso played against each other in an 8-game match in New York, USA in 1957.
That comment was totally wrong.
The fact is that the two were already teenagers when they featured in that exhibition match sponsored by Pepsi Cola. During that time, Cardoso was a 19-year old Philippine champion while Fischer was a 14-year old American champion.
At 14, Fischer was already whipping the asses of titled players in his home country which he abhored until the time of his death. In fact, Fischer became the youngest international grandmaster in history the following year of their match. So don't tell me that he's just a "child."
Yes, Cardoso lost in that 8-game match (2-6). But still, Cardoso holds the remarkable feat of being the only Filipino to beat Fischer. That's a fact.
