PREVIOUS UAAP WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS:
2002-2003 De la Salle University
2003-2005 University of the Philippines (2 yrs)
2005-2008 University of Santo Tomas (3 yrs)
2008-2009 De la Salle University
2009-2010 Far Eastern University
2010-2011 De la Salle University

Far Eastern University’s coach GM Jayson Gonzales has oftentimes stated that he wants to achieve something no other coach has ever attained -- the grand slam of UAAP chess by copping all three titles available (Men’s, Women’s and Juniors). His wish was almost granted last year when he won the Men’s and Women’s competition but Adamson managed to overtake his Baby Tamaraws and get the Junior Crown.

This year FEU got the Men’s and Juniors’ titles, but it was the Women’s crown which eluded him. La Salle’s dynamic duo of Aices Salvador (11.5/14) and Jan Jodilyn Fronda (14/14 !) was just too strong.

By way of introduction, Woman National Master (WNM) Aices Salvador has already represented the country several times abroad. She is the reigning Women’s Junior Champion here in the Philippines, having won the title last May 2010 at the Gaisano Grand Citimall in Davao City. Salvador, who is taking up her MBA-Law, also won the event in 2004, 2006 and 2007.

2010-11 UAAP Chess (Women) FEU (11), 12.02.2011

Very efficiently played by Aices!

All our support should go out to people like Aices, Jan Jodilyn and all the other college standouts, for they live here in the Philippines, study here, and play here.
