GM Torre 4th in 2011 Telin Chess

Congratulations to GM Eugene Torre, Asia's first grandmaster, for placing 4th overall in the recently concluded Telin Chess International Tournament 2011 that was held in Grha Citra Caraka, Jakarta, Indonesia from April 1 to 7.

GM Torre finished with 7.0 points, only half a point behind the eventual champion GM Cerdas Barus (7.5) of Indonesia to tie for second to fourth places but settled for 4th place due to lower tiebreak points.

At 59 years old (to celebrate his 60th his coming November), GM Torre is indeed among the legendary chess greats who have shown exceptional talent and discipline to make it this far.

Notably, it was GM Torre who dealt the single loss of GM Barus, the champion, in this international tournament when they met in Round 6.
