GM Torre graces Marikina tourney


Marikina Chess Federation head Johnny "Joel" Gaudia (left) shake hands with Asia's First Grandmaster Eugene Torre (right) during the traditional ceremonial moves to formalize the start of 5th Primitivo "Steve" Mamaril Memorial Chess Tournament at the Barangay Barangka, Multipurpose Hall, Marikina City (near Riverbanks Mall in Marikina City) on Sunday.

Joining them were RP and US chess master Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr., Efren Laylo (father of GM Darwin Laylo) and Bernie Mamaril (son of the late Primitivo "Steve" Mamaril). Also in photo were Pangasinan National Age Group Chess Champion boys 10 under Julis Gonzales (beside of Marikina Chess Federation head Johnny "Joel" Gaudia) and wheel chair bound Magtanggol Rondina (beside Asia's First Grandmaster Eugene Torre).
