2nd Bernabe Chess Cup

Congratulations to the organizers of the 2nd Mayor Florencio Bernabe Cup Parañaque Chess Open 2009 which kicked off yesterday (Saturday) and to conclude today at SM Sucat Activity Center-Building B, Sucat, Paraňaque City.

Some 300 players joined the event, notably with the participation of the country's leading grandmasters like GM Wesley So, GM Laylo, GM Paragua, GM Villamayor and several International Masters.

Certainly, the Barangay Don Bosco Chess Club (BDBCC) and the Parañaque Youth and Sports Development Office (YSDO) did something right.

Did you know the secret ingredient in holding local tournaments to be successful? Make GM Wesley So participate! That simple. This young lad has charismatic magic. In the Philippines, he brings good luck wherever he plays.

This successful feat should be replicated in other parts of the country.

After three rounds of play, the big guns are in the lead with 3.0 points. Surely the remaining six rounds will be exciting to watch. If my time permits, I'll be dropping in the venue this afternoon.

Before I go, who do you think will be No.2 in the final rankings after nine rounds? No need to ask who will be No.1.
