GM Paragua gives gift to RP PARA Chess Team

GM Mark Paragua, the first Filipino who breached the 2600 Elo mark, will hold a fund-raising simul exhibition in Meralco in Ortigas on November 28 for an early Christmas treat to the Philippine PARA Chess Team members who are blind and handicapped players.

Paragua is the fourth Filipino grandmaster this year who will selflessly offer his time and talent for the benefit of members and families of the RP PARA Chess Team through a simul exhibition organized by the Meralco Chess Club.

GMs Antonio, Torre, and Gonzales - all leading Filipino chess personalities - had already given their time to this worthy cause.

The Philippine PARA Chess Team hauled six of the total 13 gold medals harvested by the national Philippine PARA Team in 2009 ASEAN Para Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Organizers of this socially-oriented crusade is appealing to your kindness once again.

Let's make November 28 a Christmas day of our RP PARA Chess Team.

Rusticbull-is the simul by GM Paragua open to the public? If so, what time and how much will it cost to enter the simul? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, the simul is a fund-raising event with an entry fee of P500. That gives you a chance to play with GM Mark and help our PARA Chess Team. If you are interested, log on to www.meralcochess.blogspot.com and write your name on the comments portion of the GM Paragua item.

God bless.

For starters, GM Mark arrived early and thank God that I was already there with a trio of MERALCO Jrs and a couple of PARA players.

After a brief opening ceremony which was highlighted by the turn-over of the Paete made chess sets for the PARA players with GM Mark and Spawn2 an the opening prayer led by Abe of PARA, the 16-board simul (11 donors and 5 PARA) was declared open.

And less than 2 hours later, the result was 14 Wins and 2 Draws (c/o Alexis Elinon of PAA and Ronnie Dellota of MERALCO).

Thank you GM Mark for sharing your time and talent to us and most especially to our brothers in the RP PARALYMPICS Chess Team.

God bless.
