For the second time in a row, the official website of the 43rd Biel International Chess Festival headlined the photos of GM Wesley So.
Is it because he's been the leader of the pack? Or the reason might be something else?
Biel's organizers must be so delighted to have invited Wesley in their project. I'm sure, the tournament's official website has now seen a large number of "clicks" it never had before. Perhaps, they realized that the key words are "GM Wesley So" and the best visual image to put there is anything that has the face of GM Wesley So. And of course, the talent!!
Am not sure if it's only Wesley who held a simul exhibition as a featured spice of the tournament. Biel's organizers didn't report any simul done by other GM participants anyway. Wesley's simul surely endeared him to the organizers and to Swiss chess-loving people.
As I've been saying here again and again, chess as a profession is not all about winning games over the board. There's always the entertainment and business aspects of it.
If Wesley continues to be the magic charm of chess tournaments, globally and locally, the world of chess is his for the taking.
