Wesley keeps lead after Round 4

The game GM So vs GM Negi in Round 4 of the 43rd Biel International Chess Festival showed us the difference between "playing to win" and "playing not to lose." There's indeed a big difference, at least in the motivation of players.

Negi, who lost his first three games, played in Round 4 with a strong conviction not to lose. He might not have the desire to play to win. His intention might simply to play not to lose, for having another loss might already deprive him of his sanity. A draw could be enough to get back his bearing, especially if he's to play against the leader of the pack.

On the same note, Wesley's motivation in Round 4 was also simply not to lose. A draw might already satisfy him, since he's the leader of the pack anyway and he's to face somebody named Caruana in the next round.

Motivation. All great sports heroes have it in their veins.
