So loses lead to Caruana

So vs Caruana in Round 5 (Photo sourced from tournament's official website)

In one of the most anticipated face-offs by the global Filipino chess community, GM Wesley So's game against GM Fabiano Caruana of Italy in Round 5 of the 43rd Biel International Chess Festival turned out to be a national joy-killer.

The loss to Caruana stalled Wesley with 3.0 points, tied with three others from 2nd to 5th place.

I view Wesley's defeat against the Italian GM from a positive perspective nonetheless. The loss, hopefully, could fire up a sense of urgency in him. Didn't I mention of motivation, the difference between "playing to win" and "playing not to lose"?

Time to see fire on board.
