One of our readers sent me the PGN file of FM Julius Joseph De Ramos' (2314) excellent game in Round 3 against GM Bui Vinh (2480) of Vietnam in the ongoing 3rd Kuala Lumpur Chess Championship 2010.

Dmaxx and De Ramos missed GM norm - after a draw on their round 8 encounter both IM Dimakiling and FM De Ramos void any probable chance for them to earn the elusive GM norm. The younger De Ramos chance of nailing the norm is much higher than Dmaxx, and had he won, he would only need to draw his game against number two seed Hou Yifan.

But De Ramos just an FM not an IM. The best he could take is an IM norm ... had he qualified for it already?

Its not necessary or required to be an IM to earn a GM norm/GM title.

That's good news for FM Julius! How many IM norms to get that IM title?

I just think based on current form that those who can be given intl exposure even in ASEAN / Asia are
De Ramos, Nava, IM Datu,Elorta and
youngsters Jan Garcia and Haridas
Pascua, and even John Morazo.

Masusulit budget sa mga iyan...
