Six of the total 13 gold medals harvested by the Philippine PARA Team in 2009 ASEAN Para Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which is about to conclude tomorrow (August 19), came from RP's PARA Chess Team.
The remaining seven golds were from athletics (4 gold medals) and swimming (3 gold medals).
Judging by the medal output per sport, the Philippine government should know by now which sport to provide its full backing.
C'mon. There's no denying that we - the Philippines - can excel in chess. It is in this sport where we can really be globally competitive.
Calling the attention of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC). It is time you rethink the priorities in your national sports program.
This early, we would like to congratulate the total RP contingent - but of course, with special mention to our RP PARA Chess Team - for a job well done.
To all the members of our chess team, THANK YOU for bringing honors to our country. You are indeed heroes to all of us.
Again, calling the attention of Philippine sports officials, our PARA Team deserves a hero's welcome.
They deserve a hero's welcome upon their return more than Philippine government officials' return from foreign trips where they spend a lot Filipino people's money.
It is more moral to provide incentives in terms of monetary reward to our blind and physically challenged players than for Philippine government officials to spend the people's money in luxurious hotels abroad.
In fact, our heroic players who labor hard for the honor of the Philippine flag deserve more the title of "Honoroble" before their names than the congressmen who burn the Filipino taxpayers' money in a foreign land.
