Again, a decisive result was reached between a Filipino against a fellow Filipino in the ongoing Malaysian Open (Dato’ Arthur Tan Malaysian Open 2009) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
A Filipino fighting hard against a compatriot in an international competition in a foreign land is indeed a good sign to see.
Emmanuel Senador beat IM Oliver Dimakiling in Round 5 in 39 moves of a Sicilian encounter. Remember that IM Ronald Dableo defeated GM Darwin Laylo in Round 4.
Senador is now just half a point behind the untitled leader Yu Yangyi of China after seven rounds of play.
Senador is tied with 5.5 points with four grandmasters at 2nd to 7th place, including GM Laylo.
Let's look at the standings after Round 7:
6 points:
Yu Yangyi
5.5 points:
GM Ghaem Maghami Ehsan,GM Negi Parimarjan,Senador Emmanuel,GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son ,GM Laylo Darwin
5 points:
GM Li Chao b,GM Rahman Ziaur,Gao Rui,IM Dableo Ronald,IM Sriram Jha ,GM Iuldachev Saidali,Yu Lie,GM Megaranto Susanto
With still two more rounds to play, Senador and Laylo have a chance to bring home the crown.
Should Laylo win the tournament, it would be more than a confirmation of his tough form nowadays.
Back to Senador, let's watch how he demolished IM Dimakiling in Round 5:
