GM-caliber Merben Roque, the No.1 ace of the Malibay Chess Club, is conducting chess clinics among its members - for FREE.
Although still non-titled, Roque is addressed as Master in our Club. We call him "Master Rook."
On a good day, he can beat a GM! In fact, he has already beaten a number of GMs and IMs in local and international tournaments.
That's why our club is very much blessed to have him, especially now that he started to share his expertise regularly.
Roque is gifted in chess. And it is really a very welcome gesture from him to share his gift with others. Remember, a gift only becomes valuable when shared.
His volunteerism is a positive action that brings life to a chess club. And that's the key for a small chess club to prosper - share your resources which could be in the form of talent, chess materials, sweat, money, or anything that could contribute to the betterment of an organization.
In his few informal clinics in the past in our club, I always listened intently whenever he gave hints and ideas. And he is a very good teacher. I learned valuable ideas from him.
I just hope that he continue his volunteerism for the advancement of chess in Pasay City. To those who live near our area, you may want to join our club and learn from our Master Rook.

I applaud Roque for his generosity. He's one of the good players who can actually explain chess very well; others can play well but cannot break down the basics for information. You surely will learn a lot of things from him.
