Anti-doping code

FIDE has released its new anti-doping rules. Let me quote here the so-called "fundamental rationale" behind the move:

"Anti-doping programs seek to preserve what is intrinsically valuable about sport. This intrinsic value is often referred to as "the spirit of sport"; it is the essence of Olympism; it is how we play true. The spirit of sport is the celebration of the human spirit, body and mind, and is characterized by the following values:
· Ethics, fair play and honesty
· Health
· Excellence in performance
· Character and education
· Fun and joy
· Teamwork
· Dedication and commitment
· Respect for rules and laws
· Respect for self and other participants
· Courage
· Community and solidarity"

Well, my stand is that anything that violates human health should be prohibited, more so in sports which is supposed to propel human excellence and spirit.

As I see it, however, FIDE should implement the code in its organization first before the players. I recommend that FIDE officials, starting from the president, be put to test first. Only then shall FIDE have the moral ascendancy to execute the code over the players.

In the local scene, I'm not sure if the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) is implementing this kind of code -if it has such a code in the first place. And again, if NCFP is to implement an anti-doping measure, all of its officers starting from its president should undergo the test first.

Hi Resty,

Well, lets just start with ideal#1 -
'ethics, fair play and honesty' and
Philippine chess will be much more healthy!

I really think we should start policing our ranks, instead of just
'silently suffering', in effect we
also encourage (kinukunsinti) if
we just keep silent, and no action.
