The National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) is holding a 10-round, double round-robin tournament for the RP Men's Team in preparation for the country's participation in the 16th Asian Games which will be held in Guangzhou, China from November 12 to 27.
The six-man tournament is being participated in by GM Wesley So, GM Joey Antonio, GM John Paul Gomez, GM Darwin Laylo, GM Eugene Torre, and IM Oliver Barbosa. Except for Barbosa, the rest will represent the Philippines in the quadrennial regional meet.
Here are the highlights of their performance after five rounds:
- GM Laylo beat GM Antonio and GM Eugene Torre
- GM So beat GM Torre and IM Barbosa
- GM Antonio and IM Barbosa are still winless
- GM Torre and IM Barbosa already suffered three losses
