June 12 no more, but still feels like the Philippine Independence Day. Seeing three Philippine flags waving on top of the rankings in the Open 14 Standard Chess category of the 11th ASEAN+ Age-Group chess championship can give us Filipinos a feeling that we have conquered the world!!
Our boys in the Open 14 category (standard chess) produced the country's best performance in that regional tourney. They won gold for individual performance (Literatus) and another gold as as a team.
Final rankings (total of 36 players)
Rk. | Name | Typ | FED | Rtg | Pts.
1 | Literatus Austin Jacob | B14 | PHI | 0 | 7,0
2 | Le Tuan Minh | B14 | VIE | 2091 | 7,0

Actually Jarod Pamatmat is listed under the US CHESS FEDERATION, their top U-14 player!...he is not born in the Philippines!
But his father who is a former university player before in the early 80s of UST in the UAAP, Dr. Stephen Pamatmat let his son play under the Philippine flag. According to him, the organizers of the event seem don't want a US representative at the ASEAN. (Ignatuis Leong is quite unpopular in the Western chess media) Po;itics again!
Anyway congratulations to the trio...Pilipinong pilipino naman ang hitsura ng mga pogi nating juniors!
