Congratulations to Rulp Ylem Jose (in photo) for topping the 3rd Battle of Grandmasters (2010)! Despite a loss to WFM Cherry Ann Mejia in Round 6, Jose strongly bounced back by winning four of her five remaining matches to clinch the title.
Notably, Jose beat four titled players in this tough event namely, WNM Bernales, WFM Shercila Cua, WFM Pereña, and newly crowned National Juniors Champ (WOMEN) WNM Salvador.
Since this the BOGM is a national championship, I'm not sure if she automatically earned a WNM title after the tournament.
As for me, the BOGM (WOMEN) was more exciting than the BOGM (MEN) in terms of a balanced playing field. You didn't know who would make it until the battle was over. Whew!!
The Philippines has a lot of chess gems indeed. Again, congratulations to Rulp Ylem!!

Yes, I was able to watch this gal during the Angping Cup, she moves like a 'man player', I witnessed how she tamed Fronda who also competes in open events vs men!
Just my opinion on the reported plan to field our internationally titled players may not be our strongest women's team now!
The young gals have given even our WIM a tough time and regularly beating them...
