As you all know by now, GM Wesley So has just swept his 30-board simul in Fresno Chess Club (FCC) in California.
The simul was a prelude to his much awaited participation in SPICE CUP 2009 Category A organized by GM Susan Polgar which will start September 19 up to September 29.
I just don’t know if IM Ricardo "Ricky" de Guzman who emerged as overall champion in the 1st Central California Open Chess Championship regularly plays at FCC. De Guzman, who hails from Cainta, Rizal, captured the crown on August 23, his eighth in the US.
FCC is said to be the biggest chess club in California with 303 members to date. Its goal is to grow its membership to 400 by 2010. It received the “Chess Club of the Year” award from the US Chess Federation in May 2009.
Mrs. Leny So shared this info over Barangay Wesley page at chessgames.com:

Hi Susan,
It was such a pleasure to have Wesley and his father William visit us. We all truly had a wonderful time at the simul where Wesley won all of his games without any real difficulty.
We also enjoyed getting together at Dr. Tim Roth's home and at the home of Ed Bik and his family, where we all enjoyed spending time together, eating Filipino food and singing karaoke.
We hope that Wesley will return again next year, perhaps to play in some American tournaments. Perhaps we can arrange for him to visit Fresno again and visit one of the children's tournaments that Alan Fifield hosts.

Congratulations Wesley! IM Ricky de Guzman usually plays in San Francisco's Mechanics Chess Club, the oldest chess club in the US and where most strong players hang out.
