HDR El Bohemio starts today

RHAL Sol Cruz and Earl Cabugao of La Salle Greenhills head the cast in the HDR El Bohemio Non-Master Chess Tournament gets underway today, August 8, Saturday, 9:00 am at the HDR Building, # 32 Gil Fernando Avenue, Marikina City (in front of Sta. Lucia Mall).


Cruz and Cagubao, both playing under the watchful eye of NMs Erwin Carag and Andrew Vasquez, two of the six players who managed to secure a golden draw against World Chess Cup bound GM Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr., during ther are 24 board simultaneous exhibition of the latter (GM Antonio) last week at the at the Basement Canteen, Lopez Bldg, in Meralco, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

A total of P55,000 is at stake in the tournament sponsored by sportsman Henry del Rosario and organized by El Bohemio Chess Club led by Manny Brofar in close cooperation with chief arbiter NM Rudy Ibanez.

The winner of the tournament will receive P12,000, according to event coordinator Dr. Jenny Mayor who is also the RP six-time executive champion.

Other attractive prizes will be distributed as follows: 2nd place P8,000, 3rd place P5,000, 4th place P3,000, 5th place P1,000, 6th to 10th place P500 each.

Category winners: (top lady), champion P1,500, 2nd place P1,000, 3rd place P500, (top junior/ 15 years old-20 years old) champion P1,500, 2nd place P1,000, 3rd place P500, (top kiddie/ 14 years old and below) champion P1,500, 2nd place P1,000, 3rd place P500.

Registration fee: (Non Master) P300, (Kiddies /Ladies) P200.

Meanwhile, officers and members of the Lores Chess Club, Inc. of Antipolo City will hold a general membership meeting on August 30, 2009, 2 pm at the Lores Park Plaza, Brgy. San Roque, Antipolo City. This was announced by the club President Engr. Jose Febiar. Agenda will be the Classification of Membership.
