Pinoy teener draws topseed Russian GM

It's a long overdue post. Do you still remember the remarkable performance of John Ranel Morazo (in photo, center) who finished 5th overall in the just concluded 2010 Grand Asian Chess Championship (Men) that was held in Malaysia?

Yeap, this teener's 5th overall ranking was remarkable enough. But there's a thing that captivated more my attention in that international tournament which was participated in by 110 players from 11 countries - he held to a hard-fought draw a Russian GM whose Elo rating was almost 500 above his!

Morazo (2164) faced Russian GM Pavel Maletin (2636), the tournament's topseed, in Round 4 with the Black pieces. We're privileged that this talented Filipino lad shared his game with us to show how he valiantly repelled a giant in front of him.
