Eleven year-old Paulo Bersamina of De La Salle Greenshills scored 6.0 points out of six games – or a 100-percent performance – to top the Grade School Individual Category of the 5th Xavier Interscholastic Chess Challenge recently held at the High School Multi Purpose Hall, Xavier School in Greenhills, San Juan, Metro Manila.
Bersamina’s teammate Giovanni Mejia also finished with 6.0 points but settled for second place due to lower tie break.
On team results, the grade school team of De La Salle Greenhills emerged the champion, followed by La Immaculada Concepcion School (2nd) and Ateneo de Manila (3rd).
Joining Bersamina and Mejia in the champion team were Ise Nuestro and Matthew de Leon.
The closed tournament was joined in by roughly 100 participants from different schools in Metro Manila such as International School Manila, Ateneo de Manila, De La Salle Greenhills, La Immaculada Concepcion, and Ramon Magsaysay High School.
