P80K for every Filipino athlete

It's published in the papers that the Philippine government will spend P80K for every Filipino athlete who will participate in the 16th Asian Games which will be held from Nov 12 to 27 in Guangzhou, China. The amount will cover round-trip airfares, allowances, uniforms, and other competition gears.

In all, the government has allotted P30 million for some 240 Filipino athletes who are supposed to bring pride for this politically and economically challenged nation.

As of this moment, I don't know yet the actual number of Filipino chess players who will be part of the official RP Chess Team for this edition of the Olympiad. In the 15th edition of the Asiad, three members composed the RP Team, namely GM Darwin Laylo (who was an IM that time), IM Ronald Dableo and Jedara Docena.

Let's just hope and pray that the budget really goes to where it should go. The ideal thing is that the budget should be enough to provide our athletes the total comfort during the competitions for them to give their best shots and thus earn medals for the country.
