Giovanni Mejia

Giovanni Mejia (in photo) of the College of St. Benilde-La Salle Greenhills (CSB-LSGH) scored 15/16 in the 2010 NCAA Chess Juniors to bag the league's Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. Aside from winning the MVP honor, this kid also won the Gold Medal for Board 2. If I remember it right (as 2010 NCAA Chess Juniors Coach of the Year IA/NM Erwin Carag relayed to me), Gio had to beat his Ate Cherry Anne for their school's championship title, probably one of the dramatic scenes that highlighted the tournament.
