GM John Paul Gomez receives award

Grandmaster (GM) John Paul Gomez lead the nominees for the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Athlete of the Year plum.

The league holds its awards night on Thursday at the Bahay ng Alumni inside the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman campus.

Gomez made waves not only in the UAAP this season but also in the international scene.

Gomez recorded an unprecedented fifth Most Valuable Player (MVP) in chess this season, leading De La Salle to the championship. He also became the country’s ninth GM and was part of the team that saw action in the World Chess Olympiad in Dresden, Germany.
