The country's youngest ever national junior champion and youngest reigning National Master, 12-year old NM Paulo Bersamina flew today (Monday) for Malaysia to compete in the Penang Heritage City International Open Chess Tournament which will take place in Dewan Sri Pinang, Penang, Malaysia from December 8 to 12.

Bersamina, the pride of Pasay City, will be joined in by fellow Pinoy players in the Open Section. Here's the list of Pinoy players for this tournament (maybe incomplete, not sure with their titles, too):

NM Paulo Bersamina
IM Oliver Barbosa
IM Oliver Dimakiling
IM Richard Bitoon
IM Yves V.RaƱola

Format of the tournament will be a 9-round Swiss using classical chess time of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment.

May our players rule this event. I especially pray that Pau, the son of my close friend Lilet, win an IM norm. GO PHILIPPINES! Related links: PenangChess and ChessEuhong
