Palarong Pambansa silver medalist Michelle Yaon of Calamba, Laguna ruled the 1st SK Jason Cata Chess Tournament 14-Under Category which was held last December 5 in Paliparan 3, Dasamariñas, Cavite.
Other winners were Ruth De Guzman (2nd, Sta. Rosa) and Michael Manansala (3rd. Tanauan).
Recently, Michelle finished seventh out of 161 players in the 1st Chess Universe City tournament (high school).
In the Open category, Julius Calvero scored the highest points, followed by Arman Subaste (2nd) and Roel Cañaveral and Aaron Rivas (shared 3rd spot).
NM Robert Suelo served as the arbiter.
